BFI, ACG Sports unveil India Basketball League

Bengaluru, Nov 12 (UNI) The Basketball Federation of India (BFI) and ACG Sports Pvt Ltd on Wednesday announced the launch of India’s first year-round residential Basketball High Performance Centre (HPC) in Bengaluru, marking a major step towards the debut of the India Basketball League (IBL) in 2026.

Located at Lakshyan Academy, the HPC is designed as a world-class facility dedicated to elite player development and serves as the cornerstone of the IBL’s long-term vision to elevate Indian basketball to global standards.

The centre features three FIBA-standard courts, a state-of-the-art gymnasium, a 25-metre swimming pool, and an integrated sports health department equipped with advanced biomechanics, nutrition, physiotherapy, and mental conditioning units.

The facility also embraces a “phygital” model combining physical training with AI-powered digital analytics. Real-time biometrics, movement data, and smart-court systems will help players and coaches track progress and refine training programs.

BFI President Aadhav Arjuna said the initiative would build a sustainable ecosystem for Indian basketball. “The India Basketball League represents years of vision becoming reality. With the HPC operational and the league set to launch next year, we’re setting new standards for Indian sport and opening doors for generations to come,” he said.

ACG Sports Managing Director Karan Singh said the centre embodies their commitment to holistic player development. “To build a great league, you must first build great players. With this facility, we are creating a complete ecosystem that nurtures skill, fitness, and mindset—an investment in the people and passion driving Indian basketball,” he noted.

IBL Commissioner Jeremy Loeliger said the league and HPC together aim to establish a sustainable professional basketball framework in India. “Our partnership reflects a shared conviction that Indian basketball is ready for transformation. The IBL and HPC are two pillars of one vision—building a world-class basketball ecosystem rooted in Indian culture,” he said.

The HPC will feed talent into the upcoming India Basketball League, supported by an international coaching panel including Technical Director Martin Clarke, Scott Flemming, and Sarah Galler.

The first major step in the league’s talent pathway will be the IBL Invitational Combine, scheduled from November 22 to 24 in Bengaluru, followed by a nationwide series of regional try-outs conducted in association with the BFI and its state units.
