Kolkata, (UNI) The crucial meeting between West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and protesting junior doctors of the state-owned hospitals held at the former’s residence on Monday ended and the outcome of the meeting is yet to be officially announced, official sources said.
The medics entered into CM’s residence at 1900 hours following an invitatitation through state chief secretary Manoj Pant to the medics to end the deadlock ahead of Tuesday’s scheduled Supreme Court’s fourth hearing into the case of alleged rape and murder of the 31-year-old medic at the R G Kar Hospital here on August nine.
Sources said the minutes of the meeting were being worked out as the medics were yet to come out from the residence when the report came around 2300 hours.
Earlier, two such proposed meetings at Nabanna and at CM’s residence failed to take off following disputes between the two sides on some issues like live streaming and video recording of the proceedings.
A 30-member delegation of West Bengal Junior Doctors Front with two professional stenographers entered the CM’s residence to record the minutes of the meeting and its outcome to be documented and signed by the attendees and handed over to both the parties.
The medics before entering the CM’s residence said the outcome of the meeting would be discussed among representatives of participating medical colleges and hold a general body meeting and announced its outcome before the media.
The medics said they would raise the matter of justice to the family of medic, those who were responsible for alleged tampering with the evidence at the murder scene, vandalism in RGK on August 15, diciplinary action against city police commissioner Vineet Goyal, state Health secretary Narayan Nigam, his two immediate deputies, two deputy police commissioners ( north and central ), safe and secured working condition in the hospitals and an end to the threat culture.
However, the minutes of the meeting and its outcome were yet to be known.
