Bengaluru, Mar 23 (UNI) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday unveiled updated guidelines for the Indian Premier League (IPL), introducing a series of measures designed to regulate team practice routines, match-day conduct, and player movements.
The most striking directive bars all practice sessions on match days, a move aimed at ensuring players focus on strategy, recovery, and discipline rather than last-minute warm-ups.
According to the BCCI’s addendum, teams will have access to two nets and one side wicket in the designated practice area, while at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, two practice wickets on either side of the main square will be allotted to each team. Teams are prohibited from using wickets assigned to the opposition, and no fitness tests will be allowed on match days.
Additional instructions include mandatory use of team buses for travel to practice sessions and strict segregation of family members, who can only observe from the hospitality area. Only accredited staff will be permitted in dressing rooms and on-field during practice, with extended support staff requiring prior BCCI approval.
Match-day protocols have also been reinforced. All PMOA-accredited staff must carry their credentials, with warnings and fines for non-compliance. Players are instructed to avoid hitting on LED boards and adhere to seating arrangements on the field.
Designated orange and purple caps must be worn during the first two overs until broadcast coverage captures them, while post-match presentations must follow specified attire rules, with floppies and sleeveless jerseys prohibited. Each team will be limited to 12 accredited support staff, including the team doctor, on match days.
Finally, the BCCI has emphasized that any change in jersey numbers must be communicated 24 hours in advance. Officials said the new rules are designed to maintain uniformity, ensure player safety, and streamline operations during the IPL season, while reinforcing discipline and professionalism among teams and staff.
These measures mark a clear shift in how IPL franchises will manage pre-game preparations, with a heightened focus on structured practice and adherence to official protocols.
