Ayush Ministry unveils a 5-minute in-flight yoga protocol to ease travel fatigue, health risks

New Delhi, Mar 20 (UNI) A five-minute in-flight yoga protocol aimed at reducing fatigue and health risks during air travel was launched at the Yoga Mahotsav 2026, officials said.

Introduced by Prataprao Jadhav, Minister of Ayush, the mid-air yoga tool at an elevation of 35000 feet, seeks to help passengers counter the physical strain of long flights, including stiffness, poor circulation and mental fatigue. The protocol has been developed by the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), said the official document.

Officials said prolonged immobility during air travel, especially on long-haul routes, can lead to discomfort and, in some cases, health concerns such as Deep Vein Thrombosis. The new module recommends short, guided exercises that can be performed while seated, without requiring additional space or equipment.

The routine includes mindful breathing, joint movements, seated postures, breathing exercises and a short meditation segment. These are designed to improve blood circulation, ease muscle tension and promote relaxation during flights, the ministry said.

Speaking at the launch, Jadhav said the initiative was part of efforts to promote preventive healthcare practices in everyday settings. He added that integrating simple wellness routines into travel could help passengers remain active and reduce stress.

Rajesh Kotecha said incorporating yoga into constrained environments like aircraft cabins could support circulation and overall well-being.

The Ministry of Ayush said the initiative aligns with broader efforts to promote yoga as a practical tool for daily health management, including in situations such as air travel where movement is limited.
