Ayodhyanagar Police uncovers online cricket betting racket

Bhopal: The Ayodhyanagar Police of Zone-02, under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Kumar Agrawal, successfully dismantled an illegal online cricket betting operation. The police team, led by Inspector Mahesh Lilhare, seized several devices including laptops, a desktop, and five mobile phones, all used in the illegal activity. The accused father-son duo, Kamal Gangwani (50) and Prateek Gangwani (20), were found running the online betting operation from their residence in Ayodhyanagar, Bhopal.

The breakthrough came during the Champions Trophy final between India and New Zealand, when a tip-off led the police to the suspects’ location. The accused were caught red-handed, using a personal computer, five mobile phones, and an LED TV to conduct the betting. Items worth approximately ?3 lakh were confiscated. A case under Section 4(a) of the Betting Act has been registered against the duo.

Both Kamal and Prateek, residents of Madhav Nagar, Katni, were arrested. The police commended the role of the team, including Inspector Mahesh Lilhare and others, for their swift and efficient action in uncovering the racket.
