Awadhpuri residents protest against Liquor Shop relocation

Bhopal: Residents of Awadhpuri in Bhopal have launched a strong protest against the relocation of a liquor shop to their neighborhood. On Tuesday, women gathered with placards to voice their opposition to the decision, sparked by the shift of liquor outlets from restricted zones to more populated areas.

As part of their protest, local residents organized a 24-hour Akhand Ramayan recitation, which began on Monday night and continued into Tuesday, with over 50 participants joining the event. Raman Tiwari, a participant, stated that the aim was to urge authorities to reconsider the decision and relocate the liquor shop to a less sensitive area. The group plans to meet with the district collector to formally present their concerns.

The residents are particularly worried about the proximity of the proposed liquor shop to a temple, school, hospital, and bus stop—all within a 50-meter radius. They argue that placing a liquor shop near these essential community facilities is inappropriate and poses a risk to the safety and well-being of the area’s residents.

Anita Singh, a local resident, also highlighted concerns about a similar proposal for Pragati Nagar. The group has warned that if their objections are not addressed, they are prepared to escalate their protests, including blocking traffic.
