Perth, Oct 17 (UNI) Australia have suffered a setback ahead of their three-match ODI series against India, with all-rounder Cameron Green ruled out due to a low-grade side soreness sustained during training earlier this week.
The series is scheduled to begin in Perth on October 19. In-form batsman Marnus Labuschagne has been called up as Green’s replacement.
Green’s injury comes as a significant blow to Australia, particularly after his impressive unbeaten 118 in his last ODI outing. The young all-rounder had only recently returned to bowling after a long recovery from a back injury.
Labuschagne, who was initially omitted from the squad, has been recalled following strong domestic performances. The right-hander will look to make the most of this opportunity as Australia prepare for a crucial series against India.
According to a Cricket Australia spokesperson, Green’s injury is considered minor, and he is expected to resume playing at the domestic level later this month to prepare for the upcoming Ashes series against England.
“Green will complete a short period of rehabilitation and is tracking to return to play in round three of the Sheffield Shield to continue his preparation for the Ashes,” the spokesperson said.
Australia’s squad for the India ODIs includes Mitchell Marsh (captain), Xavier Bartlett, Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Matthew Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne, Mitchell Owen, Josh Philippe, Matthew Renshaw, Matthew Short, and Mitchell Starc. For games two and three, Adam Zampa, Alex Carey, and Josh Inglis will join the side.
