Bhopal/Ratlam: With a pledge to safeguard democracy and protect the rights of voters, the Congress on Sunday organised a large rally in Ratlam under the slogan “Vote Thief – Vacate the Throne.” The rally witnessed participation from thousands of workers, farmers, youth, women and people from diverse sections of society, who expressed their anger against what they termed the anti-people policies and electoral malpractices of the BJP government.
Addressing the gathering, Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari accused the BJP of dishonouring the public mandate and continuously undermining democratic values. He asserted that Congress workers would remain steadfast as the voice of the people and defenders of democracy.
However, while en route to Ratlam, Patwari’s convoy allegedly came under attack by BJP workers. Congress leaders alleged that the assault was life-threatening and pointed out that the BJP’s Mandal President was present at the site, indicating that the incident was not spontaneous but a pre-planned and orchestrated attack.
The Congress claimed that the BJP government, rattled by the growing support for the opposition, was resorting to cowardly tactics in sheer desperation. The party accused the Mohan government of compromising Patwari’s security and deliberately putting the PCC Chief’s life at risk, describing the incident as not just an attack on an individual but a direct assault on democracy.
In a strongly worded statement, the Congress condemned the attack and warned that such acts of intimidation would neither silence the party nor suppress the people’s voice. The party demanded immediate action against those responsible and cautioned that, should the government remain passive, the Congress would intensify its democratic agitation on the streets.
