Arvind Kejriwal urges Gujarat voters to back AAP, alleges decades of corruption under BJP rule

New Delhi/Surat, March 9 (UNI) Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal today appealed to the people of Gujarat to support his party in the next state assembly elections, alleging that the state has suffered due to corruption, unemployment and poor infrastructure during the past three decades of BJP rule.

Addressing a regional booth-level conference of AAP workers in Surat during his Gujarat visit, Kejriwal said people should “wake up” and form their own government by voting for the party’s election symbol, the broom.

He alleged that the BJP government had “sucked Gujarat dry” in the last 30 years and claimed that corruption had affected sectors such as business, agriculture, education, healthcare, roads and welfare schemes including the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).

Kejriwal also raised issues such as unemployment among youth, alleged incidents of exam paper leaks, infrastructure failures including bridge collapses, and problems faced by farmers.

Referring to police action during a farmers’ protest in Botad, he claimed that several farmers were detained and jailed after raising their voices against the government.

He further alleged that those who question corruption are often targeted with legal cases. Citing the example of activist Chaitar Vasava and farmer leader Pravin Ram, Kejriwal claimed they were jailed after raising issues related to corruption and farmers’ concerns.

The AAP leader also criticised both the BJP and the Congress, saying leaders of the two parties seek votes during elections but remain inaccessible to the public afterward. He urged voters to consider a political alternative.

The Gujarat Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in 2027.
