New Delhi, Aug 2 (UNI) : Delhi Police resorted to a lathi-charge against students and teachers protesting at Jantar Mantar over alleged irregularities in Staff Selection Commission (SSC) examinations.
The demonstrators demanded transparency in the recruitment process, citing concerns over exam cancellations and the involvement of a company previously blacklisted in a recruitment scam.
Arvind Kejriwal, AAP national convenor has now criticized the police action, stating that it targeted the dreams of India’s youth.
Sharing a video of the incident on social media, he said, “Students are being beaten just for questioning their future. When the exam system itself is under doubt, how can they trust it? These lathis have crushed hopes, not just bodies.”
Protesters alleged that the SSC had engaged a firm linked to past scams, including the Indore Patwari exam fraud, to conduct the tests. Despite its controversial record, the company was assigned responsibility for one of India’s largest recruitment exams. Students demanded reforms to ensure fairness, claiming repeated mismanagement had disrupted their careers.
The AAP backed the protesters, calling their demands legitimate. The party accused the central government of ignoring systemic flaws in competitive exams. Police have yet to issue a detailed response regarding the use of force.
The incident has intensified debates over exam integrity and the right to peaceful protest, with opposition leaders and student groups demanding accountability.
