Around 13.34 pc votes polled in by-poll for Milkipur seat till 9 am

Ayodhya (UP), Feb 5 (UNI) Around 13 per cent out of more than 3.70 lakh votes were polled for Milkipur assembly polls in Ayodhya till 9 am amidst tight security arrangements on Wednesday, official sources said here.

According to the Chief Electoral Officer’s office polling which started at 7 am will continue till 6 pm.

Sources said that polling is going on peacefully and no untoward incident has been reported from anywhere. They said that an average of 13.34 per cent voting had taken place till 9 am.

Inspector General of Police Praveen Kumar said that voting is going on peacefully at all polling stations and no untoward incident has been reported from anywhere. Paramilitary forces have been deployed at sensitive polling stations.

He said that strict action will be taken against those spreading rumours or those involved in any other illegal activity.

Soon after the voting for the by-election started in Milkipur assembly constituency with 3,70,829 voters, long queues of voters were seen at the booths. A large number of excited voters are arriving to exercise their franchise.

Although 10 candidates are in the fray in the by-election being held on the assembly seat which fell vacant after sitting Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Awadhesh Prasad was elected to the Lok Sabha, the main contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Chandrabhanu Paswan and SP MP Awadhesh Prasad’s son and party candidate Ajit Prasad.

Amidst voting in the by-election, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav posted on social media, “Fearless voting makes democracy powerful. Come forward to get your rights and make your own way of future by casting each vote. Vote and be cautious too.”

Meanwhile, SP MP from Ayodhya, Awadhesh Prasad recited Hanuman Chalisa at his residence in Inayatnagar, Ayodhya and wished for the victory of his son Ajit Prasad.

Sources said that polling is being held at 414 polling stations set up at 255 polling centres for which there will be micro observers, nine teams of flying squad, nine teams of static monitoring team at 71 polling stations.

Six teams have been deployed for video surveillance. Two super zonal magistrates and four zonal magistrates have been deployed for voting.
