AP: Rs 65 Cr. worth crops damaged due to untimely rains

Vijayawada, (UNI) The unseasonal rains which have occurred during the last two days damaged crops worth Rs 63 crores in the State. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu held a meeting with the district Collectors and officials on Friday and reviewed the situation.

The officials informed the Chief Minister that crops were damaged in 42 mandals in 12 districts due to unseasonal rains, hailstorms and gales, which occurred two days in the week. The officials told the Chief Minister that maize crop was damaged in 4,840 hectares, paddy crop in 1,534 hectares and black gram in 310 hectares.

Moreover, horticulture crops including banana, papaya, chilli, vegetables, mango, orange and lime, worth Rs 40 crore, were damaged in 48 mandals in 9 districts due to untimely rains and heavy gales. The total crop damage due to untimely rains was enumerated as Rs 63 crore, the officials said.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu also reviewed the supply of domestic gas to the consumers. He discussed with the officials on how to overcome the crisis in case of disruption of the LPG global supply chain due to war in the Middle East. He directed the officials to set up a strong mechanism to efficiently tackle the LPG scarcity.

The Chief Minister also ordered the officials to take steps for the uninterrupted supply of LPG to the domestic consumers in the state, educational institutions, temples, anna canteens and anganwadi centres.

Mr.Naidu suggested that the use of induction stoves and PNG should be encouraged as alternatives to the LPG to mitigate the LPG crisis. He told the officials to discuss with the Central government officials regarding supply of petrol, diesel and fertilizers.
