Anwar Ali, Mahesh Singh join India football camp in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Sep 28 (UNI) The Indian senior men’s national football team camp in Bengaluru has seen new additions as Anwar Ali and Mahesh Singh Naorem joined from East Bengal, following their release by the club.

The duo is now actively participating in team training alongside the existing squad, which currently has 25 players in camp.

Meanwhile, head coach Khalid Jamil has highlighted ongoing challenges regarding player availability. Earlier, he had named 30 probables for the preparatory camp ahead of India’s crucial Asian Cup qualifiers against Singapore on October 9 (away) and October 14 (home in Goa).

However, some players from three Indian Super League (ISL) clubs, including Bengaluru FC captain Sunil Chhetri, are yet to be released. This has impacted team preparations.

Jamil urged clubs and the All India Football Federation (AIFF) to resolve such issues through “constructive dialogue” that balances club and national commitments.

Jamil has excluded Mohun Bagan Super Giant and FC Goa players due to their involvement in AFC Champions League Two fixtures, with Mohun Bagan playing Sepahan SC on September 30 and Goa facing FC Istiklol on October 1.

Despite the challenges, preparations continue with the current squad.

With new recruits joining and phased integration of remaining players, the team aims to build cohesion and sharpen strategies ahead of the high-stakes Asian Cup qualifiers.
