Anisimova wins in US Open quarter-final

New York, Sep 4 (UNI) Seven-and-a-half weeks after failing to win a single game in the Wimbledon final against Iga Swiatek, Amanda Anisimova has beaten the Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 to reach the semi-finals of the US Open right before the New York crowd.

Seven weeks ago, she was in tears as she stood on the Centre Court podium. She had just lost 6-0 6-0 to Iga Swiatek in the Wimbledon final.

Now she’s beaten same opponent in the quarter-final of her home Slam, reports BBC.

Anisimova has beaten the player who demolished her in the Wimbledon final two months ago.

Anisimova turned to her coaching box and nodded.

Swiatek was fortunate as she got some free points, and suddenly the bubble was burst a little bit in that last game.

Just a couple of unforced errors crept into Anisimova’s game – tension was mounting down her end. The closer she got to the finish line, the more difficult it was to keep producing this level.

Anisimova again attacks the second serve of Swiatek and it brings up two break points.

Frustration from the second seed.

There were cheers from the crowd as Swiatek missed her first serve.

Anisimova has had a lot of success on the Pole’s second serve.

The American doesn’t even get a chance to look at it, though, as Swiatek hits a double fault and concedes the break.

Anisimova got lucky again with a net cord as she enters the US Open semi-finals.
