Washington, Feb 2 (UNI) India’s rising squash star Anahat Singh clinched the biggest title of her career on Sunday, winning her maiden PSA Bronze-level crown after defeating top seed Georgina Kennedy of England in the final of the Squash On Fire Open 2026 in Washington.
World No. 31 Anahat produced a composed and dominant performance to beat the reigning Commonwealth Games champion and world No. 10 Kennedy in straight games, 12-10, 11-5, 11-7, in a 26-minute final. The victory marked Anahat’s first title at a World event and her 15th overall on the PSA Tour.
The 17-year-old’s triumph capped an impressive run through the tournament. After receiving a first-round bye, Anahat overcame South Africa’s Hayley Ward in the pre-quarterfinals, defeated second seed Sana Ibrahim of Egypt in the quarterfinals, and then outclassed USA’s Sabrina Sobhy in the semifinals to set up the title clash.
In the final, Anahat showed remarkable composure under pressure. She trailed 8-10 in the opening game before reeling off four consecutive points to steal it 12-10. She again found herself behind early in the second game at 2-3, but responded with a four-point burst and conceded just two more points to take it comfortably.
The third game saw Anahat firmly in control, as she raced to a 5-1 lead inside two minutes and closed out the match with authority.
“I’m extremely happy,” Anahat said after the win. “Coming into this event, I played the British Junior Open a few weeks back, and I didn’t play too well. I knew in between these events I had some time to train, and I did as much as I possibly could to get the best out of my game.
“I knew I wanted to do well in these events, get my ranking up, and also put on a performance, and I’m glad I was able to do that this time,” she added.
The victory was also significant as it marked Anahat’s first win over Kennedy in two meetings. Already a part of India’s historic Squash World Cup, winning team, Anahat had an outstanding 2025 season, winning the Women’s Challenger Player of the Season award and sharing the Women’s Young Player of the Season honour.
With this breakthrough PSA Bronze-level title, Anahat Singh has underlined her rapid rise on the global squash circuit and taken another major step in her promising career.
