Amit Shah to inaugurate CBI cybercrime branch, warns of ‘major threat’

New Delhi, Feb 10 (UNI) Home Minister Amit Shah is set to inaugurate a new Cybercrime Branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and launch a key national cybercrime dashboard later on Tuesday, as part of a major push to dismantle digital fraud networks.

Shah will deliver the keynote address at the inaugural session of the National Conference on ‘Tackling Cyber-Enabled Frauds & Dismantling the Ecosystem’ at Bharat Mandapam, where he will preside over an Investiture Ceremony for CBI officers, inaugurate the new CBI Cybercrime Branch, and launch the S4C Dashboard of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).

Ahead of the event, the Home Minister took to the social media platform X, stating, “Cybercrime is a major threat to the world today. Our government is resolved to secure citizens from it. Today, will address the National Conference… organized by CBI to bolster India’s cybercrime combat prowess.”

The two-day conference, organised by the CBI in collaboration with the I4C under the Ministry of Home Affairs, convenes at a time when India’s rapid digital adoption has created new vulnerabilities exploited by criminals. It aims to build a unified national strategy by strengthening prevention, investigation, and coordination.

The event will see participation from a wide range of stakeholders, including senior law enforcement officials from central and state agencies, regulators from the telecom and financial sectors, public and private banks, fintech companies, telecom service providers, and cybersecurity experts.

Primary objectives include building a shared understanding of cyber-fraud trends, examining the critical pillars of the fraud ecosystem: Financial, telecom, and human resources, and strengthening inter-agency collaboration. The conference will also explore the use of Artificial Intelligence and data analytics to enhance investigations and victim protection mechanisms.
