Akhilesh Yadav questions Centre over ‘one-sided deal,’ seeks clarity on national interest

New Delhi, Feb 7 (UNI) Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led central government, questioning the nature of what he described as a “one-sided deal” and alleging a lack of transparency and protection for India’s economic stakeholders. Yadav was referring to India-US framework for an interim trade agreement that promises sharp tariff reductions, wider market access and deeper supply chain cooperation.

In a series of messages posted on his WhatsApp channel, Yadav said the people of the country were asking the BJP to explain the terms of any such agreement, asserting that deals cannot be unilateral. “Hamare desh ki janta, BJP se keh rahi hai ki jahan tak humein maloom hai, ‘deal’ ek tarafaa nahi hoti,” he said.

Raising a pointed rhetorical question, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister asked, “Janta BJP se ye pooch rahi hai ki ‘zero bada ya atharah?’” He further questioned whether, in what he termed the BJP’s “samjhauta-ganit,” the number 18 was being equated to zero.

Yadav also expressed concern over the impact of such policies on key sectors of the economy. “Desh ke kisanon, dukaanon aur udyogon ko bachane ke liye, khokhle shabdon ke alawa BJP ke paas koi aur suraksha-kavach ya sanrakshan-yojana hai?” he asked, suggesting that the government lacked concrete safeguards beyond rhetoric.

The SP chief went on to allege that there may be deeper, undisclosed reasons behind what he called a “compulsion to surrender India’s interests.” “Bharat ke hiton ke atmasamarpan ki majboori ke peeche chhupa gehra raaz kya hai?” he wrote.

Continuing his critique, Yadav likened the situation to a one-way transaction. “Kya ye ‘bani wahan, pahunchi yahan’ jaisa koi ek pakshiya maamla hai?” he asked, implying that benefits were accruing elsewhere while obligations were being met domestically.

He also questioned whether the government was merely being asked to sign on the dotted line. “Kya deal ke naam par BJP sarkar ‘dotted line’ par keval hastakshar karne ke liye baadhya hai?” Yadav said.

The remarks come amid ongoing political sparring between the opposition and the ruling party over economic policy, international agreements, and the government’s handling of farmers’ and small businesses’ concerns.
