Bhopal: Former Leader of the Opposition Ajay Singh has alleged that the ongoing SIR (Special Identification and Revision) process in Madhya Pradesh has come under serious suspicion due to the appointment of individuals from the Jan Abhiyan Parishad and other external organisations as BLO assistants. He said such appointments cast a grave doubt on the integrity of the entire process. Singh has urged the Election Commission to immediately cancel the appointments of all politically connected external individuals to ensure that the SIR exercise remains impartial, transparent and beyond suspicion. He has also requested the Chief Electoral Officer to direct district election authorities to remove all such persons from the process without delay.
Singh stated that the irregularities in voter lists, highlighted earlier by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, have now begun surfacing in Madhya Pradesh as well. Citing a recent example from Datia, he said BJP workers were appointed as assistants to BLOs and deployed across four polling booths. Following a complaint by the District Congress Committee, Collector Swapnil Wankhede cancelled the entire list, while notices were issued to district and block coordinators of the Jan Abhiyan Parishad who had submitted a list of fifty persons.
He further recalled that during the 2018 Assembly elections, Jan Abhiyan Parishad members—despite being part of a semi-government body—openly worked in favour of the ruling party. The Election Commission had to intervene after complaints by then MPCC president Kamal Nath. Singh warned that a similar pattern is re-emerging and urged the Chief Electoral Officer to impose stringent checks on the Parishad’s activities to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
