Mumbai, Dec 15 (UNI) Bollywood star Ajay Devgn met Argentina football legend Lionel Messi on Sunday during the latter’s visit to Mumbai as part of his ‘GOAT India Tour’ 2025. Messi was accompanied by fellow Argentina internationals Luis Suarez and Rodrigo De Paul.
Devgn greeted the football stars with a handshake before being welcomed at the venue by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
It was a memorable evening for cricket and football fans alike at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium, as Messi graced the venue and interacted with Indian football legend Sunil Chhetri and Bharat Ratna awardee Sachin Tendulkar.
Renowned DJ Chetas set the tone with a curated musical set, featuring popular Bollywood and international tracks, including Ed Sheeran’s Sapphire, K’Naan’s Wavin’ Flag, the 2010 FIFA World Cup anthem, and B Praak’s Teri Mitti.
A friendly exhibition match was played between the Indian Stars and the Mitra Stars. The Indian Stars team featured actors Tiger Shroff and Jim Sarbh, along with footballers Nikhil Poojari and Bala Devi. The Mitra Stars included Sunil Chhetri alongside Bengaluru FC teammates Rahul Bheke and Chinglensana Singh Konsham.
Messi and his teammates also spent time on the pitch with young girls footballers from Maharashtra’s grassroots initiative, Project Mahadeva. The interaction proved to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the budding players, who passed the ball around with the Argentine great himself.
The evening culminated with Messi and his teammates taking turns kicking footballs into the crowd, drawing louder cheers with each kick, before fans chanted the names of both Sachin Tendulkar and Lionel Messi in unison.
Delhi will serve as the final stop of Messi’s ‘GOAT India Tour’ on Monday.
