Air India reroutes, cancels flights amid Iran Airspace closure

New Delhi, Jan 15 (UNI): Air India on Tuesday said it has rerouted several flights and cancelled some services due to the emerging security situation in Iran and the subsequent closure of the country’s airspace.

In a travel advisory issued on social media, the national carrier said flights overflying the region are now operating on alternative routes to ensure passenger safety. However, the airline cautioned that the rerouting may result in delays.

“Some Air India flights, where rerouting is not currently possible, are being cancelled,” the airline said.

Air India has advised passengers to check the status of their flights on its official website before proceeding to the airport. The airline expressed regret over the inconvenience caused, describing the disruption as unforeseen.

“Safety of our passengers and crew remains our top priority,” the airline said.

The advisory comes amid heightened tensions in the region, which have disrupted civilian air traffic across parts of West Asia.

Meanwhile, Iran reopened its airspace after nearly five hours of closure, which had sparked concerns about potential military action between the US and Iran, forcing airlines to cancel, reroute, or delay some flights.

The temporary closure came as President Donald Trump has been weighing a response to the situation in Iran, which is seeing its biggest anti-government protests in years.
