AIIMS Bhopal’s Rekha Lalwani secures patent

  • For innovative brain sectioning device

Bhopal: Dr. Rekha Lalwani, Professor, Department of Anatomy, has been granted a patent for her groundbreaking invention – the Serial Section Cutter for Slicing of Human Cadaveric Brain. This innovation marks a significant advancement in medical education, forensic studies, and neurosurgical training.

The Serial Section Cutter revolutionizes brain sectioning by addressing the challenges associated with traditional slicing methods. The gelatinous and slippery nature of fresh brains, even when formalin-fixed, often results in inconsistent sections. Dr. Lalwani’s device ensures uniform and precise coronal slicing, enhancing stability, efficiency, and ease of use in anatomical, pathological, and forensic examinations.

Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh emphasized the significance of this achievement and said: “This patented device will play a crucial role in enhancing the precision of anatomical studies, forensic investigations, and neurosurgical training. Such breakthroughs reaffirm our institute’s dedication to academic excellence and impactful scientific contributions.” Dr. Lalwani’s invention is set to make a significant impact in medical education, forensic pathology, and neurosurgery.
