On Addressing Medical Emergencies in Children of Tribal Schools
Bhopal: AIIMS Bhopal is not only providing excellent medical services but is also playing an active role in community-based health initiatives. In this regard, a special training program at AIIMS Bhopal has received financial approval under the “Science and Technology Popularization” scheme by the Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology (MPCST), Bhopal. Through this training program, teachers from tribal schools will be trained in critical health aspects such as early identification of nutritional deficiencies in tribal children, timely detection of gynecological problems, prevention and awareness, and life-saving primary medical management. This program will be conducted over a year at the state’s Eklavya, Gyanodaya, Kanya Shiksha Campus, and Excellence Schools.
The principal investigator of this program is Dr. Vikram Watti (Assistant Professor, Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery), while Dr. Bhoopeshwari Patel (Additional Professor, Department of Trauma and Emergency) and Dr. Ketan Mehra (Associate Professor, Department of Urology) will serve as co-investigators. The training sessions will include expert lectures, awareness sessions, quizzes, poster competitions, and other participatory activities, enabling teachers to provide immediate assistance to children in crisis situations.
On this occasion, Prof. Singh said, “This initiative reflects AIIMS Bhopal’s deep commitment to community health and welfare. By providing emergency medical management training to teachers in tribal areas, we are not only empowering them with life-saving skills but also strengthening the country’s primary healthcare system. This program will have a positive impact on the lives of hundreds of children.”
