New Delhi, July 24 (UNI) With an aim to empower women in the emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship will start enrolling young women and girls from rural undergraduate colleges in the country from next month under its ‘AI career for women’ initiative wherein participants will be given in-depth 320-hour training.
The programme was formally launched in April, 2025 and the curriculum is being developed. “This Ministry has initiated the process for setting up of 8 centres of excellence in hub colleges in four states”, Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge) in the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, told Rajya Sabha recently in a written reply.
He further said that the training has been planned to commence in August, 2025, with a focus to train and enable economic opportunities for 8000 girls during the first year till June, 2026.
Currently, the programme is planned for two years wherein 30 hub centres and 150 spoke centres will be set up, with a further scope for expansion, based on the learnings and outcomes from the first year, said the Minister.
Earlier, during the formal announcement of the launch of the programme in April 2025, the Minister said, “Empowering young women with in-demand digital skills will not only transform individual careers but also accelerate the nation’s journey towards a more equitable and innovation-driven economy.”
