New Delhi, October 27 (UNI) In a startling twist to the acid attack case, new claims emerged on Monday that dramatically alter the initial narrative with the wife of the main accused alleging that it was the victim’s father who “plotted and executed” the crime to frame her husband in a bid to pressurize her into settling a sexual assault case.
The 20-year-old victim, a second-year student, had claimed on Sunday that she was on her way to an extra class at Lakshmi Bai College in Ashok Vihar when she was attacked by three assailants on a motorcycle, identified as Jitender, Ishan, and Arman, all residents of Mukundpur.
Jitender’s wife, who worked in a factory owned by Aqeel Khan, the father of the victim, alleged that Khan and his friends had raped her, following which she had filed a complaint with the police on October 24.
Jitender’s wife further claimed that Khan and his lawyer began pressuring her for a settlement and began issuing threats, adding when she refused to compromise, a horrifying plot was hatched by Khan to frame her husband Jitender – the main accused.
“To frame Jitender, Aqeel Khan orchestrated and executed an acid attack on his own daughter. On the day of the acid attack, Jitender was reportedly present inside his factory,” she alleged.
Jitender has also claimed that he was not at the crime scene when the attack took place.
A senior police officer confirmed on Monday that an FIR of rape was lodged at Police Station Bhalaswa Dairy against Khan and others.
Police sources said that Khan and others are currently on the run.
The 20-year-old victim had also claimed that Jitender had been stalking her for several months. “He is a married man, but he had his eye on me. His wife also supported him in this. I had warned him to mend his ways, but he didn’t budge,” the victim had said.
“They wanted to hurl acid on my face, but I escaped. I suffered burns only on my hands. I couldn’t see who threw the acid. All three accused were present at the crime scene and later fled,” the victim had added.
Bhisham Singh, DCP North West, told UNI that they are looking into the allegations from both sides.
The victim was initially admitted to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital and was later referred to the RML Hospital for further treatment of her burn injuries.
