About 6000 children to receive World Book of Records certificates

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 11 (UNI) More than 6,000 children who participated in the seed ball campaign will each receive a World Book of Records certificate from London in their names.

The seed ball campaign, which is aimed at tackling environmental challenges and creating significant eco-friendly awareness, is being implemented by the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation in Kerala and has earned a place in the World Book of Records, said Mayor Arya Rajendran.

Last year, the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation also received the UN-Habitat Global Award for its sustainable development initiatives, she added.

“This remarkable achievement was made possible through the collective efforts of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. Another piece of happy news is that all the school students who participated in the seed ball campaign have also secured a place in the World Book of Records,” she said.

Earlier, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan noted that Thiruvananthapuram had become the first city in Kerala to implement a Green Budget. The budget outlines activities aimed at limiting carbon emissions, serving as a model for other local bodies, he added.

The Corporation’s efforts to make Thiruvananthapuram a solar city are commendable. As part of this initiative, solar panels are being installed on government office buildings at a cost of ₹125 crore. Electric buses are being purchased, and the Corporation has procured and distributed 100 electric autorickshaws. Such initiatives, he said, will help Thiruvananthapuram become one of the fastest-developing cities.

The seed ball campaign involved 6,000 students, and the seed balls they prepared will be planted in office premises and on barren lands under the ‘Green Trivandrum’ concept.

By depositing four lakh seed balls across various parts of the city, large-scale tree growth can be encouraged. Such activities, aimed at tackling environmental challenges, will also help create significant eco-friendly awareness.
