Melbourne, Oct 31 (UNI) Abhishek Sharma today surpassed Virat Kohli’s record, emerging as India’s top run-scorer in 25 T20I innings with 936 runs, breaking Kohli’s previous mark of 906.
The feat came during a fiery knock of 68 off 37 balls at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, where Sharma smashed eight fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 183.78.
He reached his half-century in just 23 balls and shared a crucial 56-run sixth-wicket stand with Harshit Rana, helping India cross the 100-run mark amid a batting collapse that restricted the team to 125 all out.
This was Sharma’s eighth innings of 50 in 25 innings, equalling Kohli’s tally, and his first 50 on Australian soil. With 936 runs, he now ranks fourth globally for most runs in 25 T20I innings, behind Dawid Malan, Babar Azam, and David Conway, and also holds the highest strike rate in such a span at 193.38.
Despite Sharma’s brilliance, India’s batting faltered under Australia’s relentless bowling, leaving the hosts in control of the game.
