New Delhi, Jan 3 (UNI) One of India’s most promising Chess prodigy- 10 year old Aarit Kapil lived up to his reputation as he bagged the Delhi State Under 15 Chess Championship 2026 crown on Saturday here.
Aarit the Delhi Chess Association organised scoring seven points, garnering 38.5(TB1), 42.5(TB2) and 36.5(TB3), he was followed by Mehul Sondhi in Rank 2. Mehul also scored seven points garnering 37(TB1), 40(TB2) and 34.5(TB3).
Dhruv Gupta was third scoring 6.5 points garnering 37(TB1), 41(TB2) and 31.75(TB3).
The Championship format involved a total of 8 rounds with time control of 30 Minutes 30 Seconds Increment from move 1.
The two day event was hosted at ShreeRam World School, Dwarka.
Aarit as a nine year old in 2025, won the national Under 11 Open Chess Championship in a dominating fashion. He created waves when he held World Champion Magnus Carlsen to a draw in an online blitz game at the ‘Early Titled Tuesday’ chess tournament on June 24, 2025.
He is also the third youngest player globally to defeat a grandmaster in classical chess when he won against Raset Ziatdinov of the US in December 2024.
