New Delhi, Dec 18 (UNI) Ahead of Assembly election in the National Capital, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal announced on Wednesday that senior citizens above 60 years of age will receive free medical treatment under the Sanjivani Scheme if the AAP comes to power.
Addressing a gathering, Kejriwal said, “In old age, one thing troubles everyone: as age progresses, illnesses start to surround a person. The biggest concern people have is, ‘How will I afford my treatment?’ I know many people, even from well-off families, whose children do not take care of them. I have seen elderly individuals suffer, even in the best families, abandoned by their children. But you don’t have to worry—your son is still alive.”
Referring to the Ramayana, he said, “When Lord Lakshman fell unconscious, Lord Hanuman brought the Sanjivani herb for him. Today, I am announcing the Sanjivani Yojana for the elderly in Delhi.”
Under this scheme, all senior citizens above 60 years of age will receive free medical treatment, whether in government or private hospitals. The Delhi government will cover the entire cost, without any restrictions based on BPL, APL, TPL, or RPL categories. There will be no upper limit on expenses.
Highlighting the ease of registration, Kejriwal said, “Registration for the scheme will begin within 2-3 days. Volunteers from the AAP will visit your homes to complete the registration and provide you with a card. Keep this card safe. Once our government is formed, this scheme will be passed, and your son will take full responsibility for your health.”
Kejriwal emphasized, “It is because of our elders that we exist today. You worked tirelessly to raise your families, uplift society, and advance the country. Now, in your old age, it becomes our duty, as your children, to care for you.”
He also lauded the Mukhyamantri Teerth Yatra Yojana, under which nearly one lakh senior citizens have undertaken pilgrimages to destinations such as Rameswaram, Shirdi Baba, Ajmer Sharif, Ayodhya, Mathura-Vrindavan, Rishikesh, Jagannath Puri, and Dwarkadhish. The Delhi government bore all travel, lodging, and meal expenses.
“The elders of Delhi have always considered me their son. Today, I am fulfilling my duty. If AAP wins, all senior citizens above 60 will receive free treatment under the Sanjivani Yojana. Now, the complete treatment of the elderly is my responsibility,” he tweeted.
Meanwhile, senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia said, “This is not just a scheme but a promise of respect and a better life for our elders: Manish Sisodia.”
“A son should be like Arvind Kejriwal! First, he became a modern-day Shravan Kumar, taking lakhs of elders on pilgrimage, and now he has introduced the revolutionary Sanjivani Scheme to ensure their health is fully taken care of. Under this initiative, elders over 60 years of age in Delhi will receive free treatment in both government and private hospitals. This is not merely a scheme but a pledge of respect and a better life for our elders. Our goal is for every senior citizen in Delhi to live a healthy and happy life,” he tweeted.
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi tweeted, “A son should be like Arvind Kejriwal. First, he became a Shravan Kumar for Delhi by arranging pilgrimages for over 1 lakh elders, and now he has introduced the Sanjivani Scheme for their well-being. This initiative will provide free medical treatment to senior citizens above 60 years of age. Registration for this scheme will begin shortly, and its implementation will commence after the elections. Our prayer is for every elder in Delhi to remain healthy.”
Senior leader and Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “For the first time in India, a son thought about all his elders. Arvind Kejriwal ensured that every citizen over 60 years of age in Delhi had the opportunity to go on a pilgrimage. From transport to railway stations, darshan arrangements at pilgrimage sites, AC train coaches, hotels, meals, and medical facilities—everything was thoughtfully planned. Today, the same Arvind Kejriwal, known as Delhi’s ‘big son,’ has come up with the Sanjivani Scheme to provide free medical treatment for all senior citizens.”
