AAP leaders detained by Delhi Police during protest against BJP over Guru Tegh Bahadur row

New Delhi, 11 Jan (UNI) AAP leaders, including Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj, were detained on Sunday while protesting against the BJP over the Guru Tegh Bahadur issue, alleging the circulation of a “doctored” video of former chief minister Atishi.

The protest was staged near the BJP headquarters, where Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders demanded an apology from Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

“The BJP should apologise for circulating fake videos related to Guru Tegh Bahadur. This reflects their dirty politics, aimed at diverting attention from Delhi’s real issues,” said AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha.

He accused the BJP of disrespecting the Guru, warning that people would not forgive it and calling on all party leaders to apologise.

Earlier, using the video clip, Delhi BJP leaders, including Law Minister Kapil Mishra, had alleged that Atishi insulted Guru Tegh Bahadur in the Assembly during a debate in the House.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva had sought apology from the whole AAP leadership in the alleged incident in the Delhi Assembly.

He said that when Kapil Mishra raised the issue, Arvind Kejriwal got an FIR registered against him through the Punjab Police, which he claimed had no authority to do so.

Clarifying her side, Atishi accused the BJP of playing petty politics by bringing the name of the ninth Sikh Guru into the controversy.

Atishi, in a video on X, clarified that she was addressing the BJP’s attempt to avoid discussion on pollution and their protest in the Assembly concerning stray dogs.

According to her, the BJP had intentionally added a misleading subtitle to the clip and included the name of Guru Tegh Bahadur.

The former Delhi chief minister also said that she comes from a family where, for generations, the eldest son has adopted Sikhism, adding that she would rather die than insult the Guru Sahib.

On Friday, the Jalandhar Police Commissionerate registered an FIR regarding the uploading and circulation of an “edited” and “doctored” video of Atishi in the Delhi Assembly.
