AAP leaders blame BJP administration for Child’s death in waterlogging incident

New Delhi, Oct 29 (UNI) Leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have held the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led municipal corporation and Delhi government responsible for the death of a six-year-old girl, who drowned in a waterlogged area in the Rama Vihar colony of Mundka last week. The AAP has demanded a compensation of one crore rupees for the victim’s family and an immediate resolution to the waterlogging, which they allege is a direct result of garbage from the Bhalswa landfill being dumped in the area, blocking drainage systems.

The incident occurred on the evening of October 23. According to AAP officials who visited the site, the child fell into a waterlogged plot and her body was recovered by local residents hours later.

Addressing the media, Ankush Narang, the AAP’s Leader of Opposition in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), claimed that water has been stagnating in parts of Rama Vihar for three to four months, with levels reaching up to seven feet, forcing some families to evacuate their homes.

“The garbage from Bhalswa landfill is being cut and dumped in Rama Vihar, forming another mountain of waste. Due to these garbage mountains, water drainage has been completely blocked, leading to this tragedy,” Narang stated. He questioned the accountability of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, asking who was responsible for the child’s death.

Other AAP leaders, Praveen Kumar and Preeti Dogra, who accompanied Narang to the site, echoed these allegations. They accused the local BJP MLA and councillor of not visiting the grieving family and claimed that the area lacked proper lighting, which hampered the search efforts.

“The BJP government has turned Rama Vihar into ‘Kooda Vihar’ by dumping Bhalswa’s waste here,” said Preeti Dogra, describing the locality as filled with garbage, filth, and mosquitoes.

The AAP has issued a letter to the Chief Minister, Mayor, and MCD Commissioner with three demands: immediate drainage of the stagnant water, a stop to the dumping of garbage in residential areas, and the provision of compensation to the victim’s family.
