AAP calls out MCD budget; highlights gaps in scholarships and services

New Delhi, Dec 26 (UNI) The AAP on Friday criticized the budget presented by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD) Commissioner to the Standing Committee, labeling it a “paper exercise”.

Leader of Opposition in the MCD, Ankush Narang, raised several concerns regarding the implementation of existing schemes and civic amenities.

Narang stated that despite budgetary provisions, the expenditure on student scholarships for the 2024-25 fiscal year remained zero. He also claimed that only 4.26 lakh out of 6.58 lakh municipal school students have received funds for uniforms and stationery, leaving many deprived.

The opposition leader questioned the civic body’s achievements, noting that dog bite incidents continue unabated despite the sterilization and vaccination of over 54,000 stray dogs. He further alleged that 53 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs lack regular doctors, medicines, and diagnostic facilities.

On infrastructure, Narang raised doubts about the operational status of several Waste-to-Energy plants whose foundation stones were laid. He also highlighted public grievances regarding non-functional street lights, expensive parking, and persistent traffic congestion despite new parking projects.

Narang demanded an independent audit of the corporation’s financial condition and a review of its online systems, arguing that the budget ignored public interest priorities. The allegations put a focus on the gap between budgetary announcements and on-ground delivery of services by the BJP-led municipal body.
