AAP backs Delhi govt’s move to install air purifiers in schools

New Delhi, Dec 19 (UNI) The Aam Aadmi Party has expressed conditional support for the Delhi government’s decision to install air purifiers in state-run schools, while issuing a strong warning against potential overpricing and corruption in the procurement process.
AAP’s Delhi state president Saurabh Bharadwaj acknowledged the move during a media interaction on Friday. However, he pointed out the timing, noting that December is nearly over and winter vacations for schools have already begun. He also stated that schools are currently functioning in a hybrid mode due to the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) against pollution.
“Even so, if the government intends to purchase air purifiers, it may go ahead,” Bharadwaj said.
The statement swiftly shifted to a cautionary tone, urging the ruling BJP administration in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to ensure transparency. The AAP explicitly warned the government against invoking emergency clauses to facilitate questionable purchases, using the phrase “one item bought, two billed” to describe potential malpractices.
“Air purifiers must be procured strictly at fair prices, failing which the government will only invite yet another charge against itself,” Bharadwaj concluded.
