AAP alleges corruption in Delhi Govt’s flag scheme

New Delhi, Aug 19 (UNI) The principal opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today accused the Delhi government of corruption in a scheme entailing distribution of the national flag.

The Delhi BJP government is yet to issue an official response to these allegations.

The allegations were detailed by AAP MP Sanjay Singh at a press conference at the party headquarters. He claimed that a “Tiranga scam” had been uncovered, involving the distribution of “substandard” flags under the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign.

According to Singh, the Delhi government allocated 4 crore rupees to distribute 7 lakh national flags to households before Independence Day. The tender specified that each flag should be 900 mm by 1350 mm in size and come with a 6-foot pole.

However, Singh presented documents alleging that the flags supplied were significantly smaller, measuring 711 mm by 508 mm, and were accompanied by poles shortened to 4 feet. He further stated that the cost per set was approved at 60 rupees, but the company supplied flags that were worth only 15 rupees each.

A key point of contention raised by the AAP is the timing of the tender process. Singh claimed that while the flags were intended for distribution before August 15, the tender was not opened until August 16, a day after the national holiday. He alleged that the contract was awarded to Anirat Contracts Pvt Ltd without due process and in collusion with government officials.

Three companies — Anirat Contracts Pvt Ltd, Spesh for Business Solution Pvt Ltd, and Vinayak Product Compan y— were said to have participated in the tender.

Calling for a probe, Singh demanded the arrest and imprisonment of those responsible, stating that the scam was an insult to the sacrifice of India’s freedom fighters.

Separately, senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia commented on the social media platform X, writing, “Politics on the Tiranga, business on the Tiranga, and now a scam on the Tiranga. Such scamsters deserve to face sedition charges.”
