New Delhi, Aug 12 (UNI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of prioritising corporate interests over public welfare, alleging that benefits from discounted Russian crude oil imports have not reached ordinary Indians.
AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh claimed that while India purchased oil at lower rates, fuel prices domestically remain high, and private players like Reliance Industries profited by reselling processed fuel abroad.
Speaking at a press conference, Singh stated that India imported 231 million barrels of Russian crude in the last six months, of which Reliance alone bought 77 million barrels. He alleged that instead of passing on the cost benefits to consumers, Reliance exported refined fuel, earning an estimated Rs 50,000 crore. “If India is buying cheaper oil, why are petrol and diesel still priced between ₹95 and Rs 104 per litre?” Singh questioned.
The AAP leader also linked recent geopolitical developments to corporate interests, suggesting that the Modi government’s ceasefire decisions were influenced by legal troubles faced by industrialist Gautam Adani in the US. Singh demanded transparency, asking the Prime Minister to disclose how much savings from discounted oil imports had benefited the public.
The allegations come amid ongoing debates over India’s energy procurement strategies and their impact on domestic fuel prices. The government has yet to respond to AAP’s claims.
