AAP accuses Delhi Mayor of failing to fulfil streetlight distribution promise

New Delhi, Oct 31 (UNI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Mayor of Delhi, Raja Iqbal Singh, of failing to honour a commitment made in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House to provide streetlights to councillors.

Ankush Narang, the AAP’s Leader of Opposition in the MCD, has written to the Mayor, demanding the immediate distribution of the lights.

The controversy stems from a statement made by Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh during an October 14 House meeting.

According to Narang, the Mayor pledged to provide 50 streetlights to each councillor before the Diwali festival to help illuminate dark spots across the city. Narang claimed that despite the festive season having concluded, no streetlights have been distributed to any councillor.

Narang has labelled the Mayor’s promise a “jumla” or hollow slogan, and has posed several questions. He has asked why the announcement was made in the formal setting of the House if there was no intention to follow through.

He also inquired whether the distribution was delayed due to procedural issues involving officials and, if so, what action the Mayor has taken against those responsible for the delay.

The AAP leader stated that the failure to fulfil this promise is a sign of irresponsibility and brings disrepute to the Mayor’s office. He warned that if the streetlights are not provided promptly, the issue would be raised more forcefully, both in public forums and within the MCD House.
