AAP accuses Delhi Govt of shifting Bhalswa landfill waste to Kirari

New Delhi, Jan 23 (UNI) Aam Aadmi Party’s Delhi state president Saurabh Bharadwaj on Friday criticised Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s administration over the relocation of waste from the Bhalswa landfill to vacant Delhi Development Authority land in Kirari.

Bharadwaj shared a video on social media platform X showing waterlogging in Sharma Colony and nearby areas, which he attributed to drainage issues exacerbated by accumulated garbage.

He alleged that the government’s slogan, “Koode ke pahaad, tujhe jaana padega” (the garbage mountains, you will have to go), masked what he called a fraudulent practice, as waste was simply being moved to a new location.

In a video message, Bharadwaj questioned who had authorised the DDA to deploy thousands of trucks to transport garbage from Bhalswa to Kirari, and who was bearing the cost of the operation. He raised concerns about the environmental impact, suggesting the dumped waste could pollute local land and groundwater, potentially leading to health risks for future residents.

Bharadwaj referenced earlier statements by the Chief Minister, in which she had said that ministers would regularly address the landfill issue. He claimed that while the public focused on the phrase “you will have to go,” no one asked where the waste would actually be moved. According to him, the answer has now become clear: Kirari.

He alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government’s intention was not to eliminate the garbage but to transfer it from one part of Delhi to another, effectively creating a new landfill site in Kirari while reducing the mountain at Bhalswa.

Bharadwaj also questioned the decision-making process, asking which environmental experts had recommended the technique and under whose instructions the DDA was acting. He emphasized that the operation involves significant government expenditure.
