Aamir Khan to collaborate with Rajkumar Hirani for the third time

Mumbai, June 28 (UNI) Bollywood’s Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan is set to reunite with acclaimed filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani for a third cinematic venture — a biographical epic based on the life and legacy of Dadasaheb Phalke, recognised as the father of Indian cinema.

Rajkumar Hirani, often hailed as the most bankable auteur in Hindi cinema, has long been associated with narratives that marry emotional depth with subtle humour, and this forthcoming biopic promises to carry forward that legacy. The biopic will explore Phalke’s journey, influence and the legacy has left behind, brought to life by a team that includes writers Abhijat Joshi, Hindkush Bhardwaj and Avishkar Bhardwaj.

After the success of ‘3 Idiots’ and ‘PK’, Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani are teaming up for the third time for the Dadasaheb Phalke biopic.

Both films were celebrated for their sharp wit, emotional depth, and powerful storytelling — a signature style the duo is known for.

In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, when asked if humour would also find its place in the Phalke biopic, Aamir responded: “I think Raju and Abhijat (Joshi, writer) have a special leaning towards comedy — and so do I. All three of us really like humour, and I think that’s the genre Raju enjoys most: drama with humour. So this will probably fall into the same space.”

Principal photography for the biopic is scheduled to commence in October 2025, with Aamir Khan diving into preparations right after the release of his upcoming project ‘Sitare Zameen Par’.

To authentically depict the bygone era, the production team has roped in a Los Angeles-based VFX company, which is employing cutting-edge AI technology to recreate early 20th century India with visual accuracy and historical depth.
