Anil Ambani to join CBI probe on March 19–20 in Rs 2,929 cr loan fraud case

New Delhi, March 19 (UNI) Anil Ambani will join the probe being conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation on March 19 and 20 in connection with an alleged Rs 2,929.05 crore loan fraud case linked to Reliance Communications, officials said.

A spokesperson for Anil D. Ambani confirmed to UNI that he will appear before the agency in Delhi on March 19 and 20 for questioning in connection with a First Information Report (FIR) filed on the basis of a complaint by the State Bank of India regarding Reliance Communications Ltd.(RCOM).

The case has been registered against him and others.

“The appearance is in furtherance of Ambani’s commitment to extend full cooperation in the matter with all agencies,” the official told UNI.

According to the information, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) lodged the FIR on August 21, 2025 based on a complaint received from the State Bank of India, Mumbai, against Reliance Communication Ltd. (RCOM), Mumbai, its director Anil Ambani, unknown public servants, and others. The case pertains to allegations of defrauding SBI and causing a wrongful loss of Rs 2,929.05 crore.

Investigators allege that Ambani and others allegedly hatched a criminal conspiracy, misrepresented facts, and obtained sanctioned credit facilities from State Bank of India in favour of Reliance Communications Ltd.

The loans were later allegedly diverted and misused.

“There were allegations pertain to potential routing of loan funds and inter-company loan transactions, misutilization of sales invoice financing, discounting of bills of RCOM by Reliance Infratel Ltd, movement of funds through inter corporate deposits, write off of capital advances given to M/s Netizen Engineering Pvt. Ltd.- a group company of Reliance ADA Group, and creation/write off of fictitious debtors, etc. By the aforementioned acts, the accused persons are alleged to have committed offences of criminal conspiracy, cheating, criminal breach of trust,” said a CBI official.

The CBI, on August 22, 2025, moved an application before a Special CBI Court in Mumbai and obtained a search warrant against Anil Ambani and others.

Further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
