Bhopal: Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has emphasised that minimising losses and restoring normal life swiftly during natural disasters or man-made accidents is of paramount importance. Addressing the Madhya Pradesh Civil Defence Volunteers Conclave 2026 at the Home Guards Parade Ground, he said patience and courage are essential in times of crisis, while the prompt response and service spirit of Home Guards and Civil Defence volunteers act as a protective shield for society.
He noted with pride that the state has a disciplined force of more than 82,000 volunteers. In a rapidly changing global scenario, Civil Defence plays a crucial role, he said, adding that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country’s response systems have strengthened significantly following challenges such as the COVID pandemic and terrorist threats.
The Chief Minister observed demonstrations by volunteers, including flood rescue using rubber boats, improvised floating rafts, rope bridge construction, CPR techniques, and rescue methods during air attacks. Women volunteers from Indore presented self-defence skills. Jackets were distributed to participants during the programme.
Highlighting the need for wider preparedness, Dr Yadav called for Civil Defence training for women and specialised training for police personnel to handle road accident emergencies. He also referred to initiatives such as the Rahveer Scheme and air ambulance services aimed at saving lives.
Citing a recent incident in Indore involving an electric vehicle charger fire and a malfunctioning digital door lock, he urged forces to adapt to emerging technological risks. Director General Pragya Richa Srivastava said 780 volunteers from five districts underwent month-long training, contributing actively to disaster management and internal security preparedness.
