Women graduates will shape India’s future: CM at IG DTU

New Delhi, Mar 12 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday attended the 8th convocation ceremony of Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women and congratulated graduating students, saying women empowered with technical education will play a decisive role in shaping the country’s future.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that a convocation is not merely the end of academic life but the beginning of a new journey.

She encouraged the students to move forward with curiosity, innovation and a strong sense of responsibility, and to use their knowledge and technical skills for the benefit of society and the nation.

Gupta said the occasion marked a significant milestone in the lives of the graduating students, celebrating years of hard work, dedication and aspirations coming to fruition.

She noted that the 1,181 students graduating this year were not just receiving degrees but stepping forward as future leaders who would contribute to the progress of society through their knowledge, skills and leadership.

Highlighting national initiatives launched under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, including Digital India, Startup India and Skill India, she said such programmes have created new opportunities for youth in innovation, research and entrepreneurship.

The university, she added, is contributing to the vision of women’s empowerment and a developed India by aligning with these national goals.

The Chief Minister also emphasised the concept of women-led development, saying women today are not only participants in the development process but are emerging as leaders across sectors.

Empowering women through education and skills, she said, not only transforms their own lives but also accelerates progress for society and the nation.

Calling Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women one of the country’s leading institutions for women’s technical education, Gupta said the university is playing an important role in encouraging women to pursue careers in engineering, science, technology, architecture and management, while nurturing the next generation of scientists, entrepreneurs and leaders.

Delhi’s Education Minister Ashish Sood said the convocation was not only a celebration of academic achievement but also a message that young women today are emerging as builders, innovators and leaders of the future.

He said India is currently passing through the phase of “Amrit Kaal”, and women’s participation during this period has become one of the country’s greatest strengths.

While women were once discouraged from stepping forward, he said, they are now demonstrating leadership and capability across every field.

Sood added that the graduating students were leaving the university not only with degrees but also with the responsibility to contribute to society, expressing confidence that their knowledge and determination would help build a developed India and a developed Delhi.

During the ceremony, a total of 1,181 degrees were awarded to students across various programmes, including 938 undergraduate, 212 postgraduate and 31 PhD degrees.

The university also conferred two Chancellor’s Medals, 15 Vice-Chancellor’s Medals and 26 awards to recognise outstanding academic achievements.
