‘Bengal Means Business’: Derek O’Brien highlights economic corridors and Shale Gas project in ‘Morning Walk’ video

New Delhi, March 11 (UNI) ‎Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’Brien on Wednesday highlighted a series of infrastructure and energy initiatives in West Bengal, saying the projects underline the state’s growing investment potential, in the latest episode of his “Morning Walk” video series.

‎In the video posted on social media from Delhi, the Trinamool Congress leader said six new economic corridors are being developed in the state that are expected to attract investments worth about Rs 2 lakh crore.

“Six new economic corridors are being set up. These will attract investment of about Rs 2 lakh crore,” O’Brien said in the video, emphasising that the initiatives are aimed at strengthening industrial growth and connectivity.

‎He also pointed to a major energy project in the state, noting that a shale gas plant is being developed in the Durgapur–Asansol region with an estimated investment of Rs 22,000 crore. According to him, the project is expected to contribute significantly to the region’s industrial ecosystem and energy infrastructure.

“A shale gas plant is being developed in the Durgapur–Asansol region with an investment of Rs 22,000 crore,” he said, describing it as a major step in expanding energy resources and industrial capacity in the area.

‎O’Brien used the update to reiterate the Trinamool Congress’s narrative that West Bengal is emerging as a major investment destination. “Bengal means business. More than just a slogan,” he said in the video, suggesting that ongoing infrastructure and industrial projects reflect the state’s economic momentum.

‎The “Morning Walk” series is a digital outreach initiative launched by the Rajya Sabha MP in which he shares short video updates on development projects, infrastructure initiatives and economic indicators linked to West Bengal. The campaign has been positioned by the party as a way to highlight governance achievements and economic progress under the leadership of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

‎The series comes amid increasing political activity ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, with the Trinamool Congress seeking to emphasise infrastructure expansion, industrial investment and welfare initiatives as key components of its development narrative.

‎In recent episodes, O’Brien has cited economic data and ongoing projects across sectors such as technology, real estate and infrastructure, arguing that the state has continued to attract domestic and international investment despite broader economic challenges.

‎The latest video, filmed during the ongoing parliamentary session in Delhi, continues that theme by spotlighting large-scale industrial and energy projects, which the party says demonstrate that the slogan “Bengal means business” reflects a broader push to position the state as a hub for investment and economic growth.
