Congress alleges BJP health policy favours corporate hospitals

By Special Correspondent

Bhopal: Congress spokesperson Dr Vikram Choudhary has accused the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh of pursuing a health policy that allegedly favours large corporate hospitals while putting smaller private hospitals under pressure. Speaking to this correspondent, he said the state’s healthcare system was already struggling with a shortage of doctors, inadequate infrastructure and limited facilities in government hospitals.

Choudhary claimed that the decision to make full NABH accreditation mandatory for hospitals empanelled under the Ayushman Bharat scheme was impractical and would severely affect small and medium hospitals. He noted that NABH certification is a voluntary quality standard involving complex procedures, significant investment and additional staffing, making compliance difficult for smaller institutions.

If implemented, he warned, many small hospitals could be forced out of the scheme, reducing treatment access for poor and rural patients. The Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee has demanded immediate withdrawal of the order.
