Singhar raises Vijaypur case, other issues

Bhopal: Leader of the Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Umang Singhar, on Tuesday addressed a press conference at his residence, raising key issues including the Vijaypur election case, rising inflation amid changing international circumstances and the appointment of Information Commissioners.

Speaking about the Vijaypur case, Singhar said the Congress respected the court’s decision declaring the election of party MLA Mukesh Malhotra void. He emphasised that the judicial process is paramount in a democracy and every individual has the right to seek justice from district courts up to the Supreme Court. He added that Malhotra could approach the Supreme Court and the party would move ahead after seeking legal advice.

Singhar noted that several cases in the country had seen different outcomes through the judicial process, citing examples such as the case involving Devendra Fadnavis. “The final hope for justice always lies with the Supreme Court,” he said.

At the same time, he questioned whether the Bharatiya Janata Party was trying to create political pressure over the issue. According to him, the BJP was afraid of facing elections and was attempting to avoid direct public scrutiny.

He also raised concerns over delays in other cases, including the alleged paid news case involving former minister Narottam Mishra and the Nirmala Sapre matter, asking why decisions in these cases had remained pending for years.

Commenting on international developments, Singhar said the Iran–Israel conflict was rapidly altering global circumstances and could lead to rising prices in India. He urged the Centre to provide relief by reducing taxes on petrol, diesel and LPG cylinders.

He also criticised the government over the appointment of Information Commissioners, noting that although the meeting was meant to fill three vacancies, only two posts were being filled. Singhar urged the government to fill all vacant posts promptly to ensure transparency and effective implementation of the Right to Information Act.
