Woman dies in fire in house in Gwalior

  • Five family members rescued as flames engulf businessman’s residence

Gwalior: A woman died after a fire broke out at a businessman’s house in the Kotwali police station area of Gwalior on Sunday evening. The incident occurred around 4 p.m., when thick smoke and flames suddenly began rising from the house, causing panic in the neighbourhood.

According to officials, six members of the family were inside the house at the time of the incident. Five of them were safely rescued by emergency teams, while the daughter-in-law of the family could not be saved and died in the fire.

Soon after the fire was reported, fire brigade and police teams rushed to the spot and began rescue operations. Firefighters broke the windows of the house to gain entry and evacuate those trapped inside. The rescued family members were taken to safety as efforts to control the flames continued.

Woman’s father suffers heart attack

The deceased woman’s father, Ashok Agarwal, reportedly suffered a heart attack after learning about the incident and has been admitted to Apollo Hospital for treatment.

District Collector Ruchika Chauhan said that preliminary information suggests the fire may have started while an air conditioner was running in the house, after which it quickly spread through the building.

Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) also reached the site to assist in firefighting operations. Additional Commissioner Pradeep Tomar said more than 35 water tankers were used to control the blaze. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the fire.
