LS Speaker Om Birla flags off all-women bike rally in Delhi on International Women’s Day

‎‎New Delhi, March 8 (UNI) Marking International Women’s Day, Om Birla, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, on Sunday flagged off the All-Women Bike Rally 2026 organised by a national daily at Connaught Place, highlighting the crucial role of women in nation-building.

‎Addressing participants and attendees at the event in the national capital, Birla extended his greetings to citizens on the occasion and said women have played a defining role in shaping India’s progress.

‎“From the freedom movement to the rebuilding of modern India, women have provided strong leadership in every field,” Birla said.

He added that women today are playing an increasingly prominent role in governance and public life. “Today women in India are providing leadership from panchayats to Parliament and are becoming a strong foundation for the nation’s development.”

‎The Lok Sabha Speaker said Indian women are achieving remarkable success across sectors. “Women in India are second to none today and are setting new milestones in every field,” he said, noting that their achievements continue to inspire future generations.

‎Praising the initiative by the national daily, Birla said the rally sends a strong message about empowerment and confidence.

“This rally conveys a powerful message of women’s empowerment, confidence, and safety,” he said, adding that the publication has consistently organised campaigns aimed at promoting positive social change.

‎The event was also attended by Rekha Gupta, who commended the courage and leadership of women participating in the rally and highlighted the importance of creating a safe and supportive environment for women across the country.

‎Hundreds of women riders took part in the rally, riding through central Delhi to spread the message of a strong, safe and confident India.

The event formed part of wider celebrations across the country marking International Women’s Day, which recognises the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women while calling for greater gender equality and empowerment.
