PM Modi highlights Annapurna Devi’s article on Women’s role in nation-building

New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday highlighted a write-up by Minister Annapurna Devi, emphasising the role of women in shaping India’s development and the importance of the care economy in the country’s journey toward a developed nation.

The post comes as the country prepares to celebrate International Women’s Day.

In a post on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister shared the minister’s article and underscored the central role of women’s contributions in India’s progress. “As the nation celebrates our Nari Shakti, union Minister Smt. Annapurna Devi writes that Bharat’s story has been shaped by the strength of its women, drawing from a rich historical legacy,” Modi said.

Annapurna Devi, who serves as a union minister in the Modi government, reflected on the historical and contemporary role of women in India’s social and economic transformation. In her article, she wrote that the narrative of Bharat’s growth is deeply intertwined with the resilience, leadership and contributions of women across generations.

“From ancient times to modern India, women have played a defining role in shaping the moral, cultural and economic fabric of the nation,” she noted, adding that the empowerment of women remains a key pillar in the country’s development vision.

The minister highlighted the significance of the care economy—comprising activities such as caregiving, nurturing families and supporting community well-being—as a foundational element in India’s growth trajectory. She argued that recognising and strengthening this sector is essential for achieving the goal of a developed India, often referred to by the government as Viksit Bharat.

“The care economy forms an important foundation in our journey toward Viksit Bharat,” she wrote, emphasising that valuing care work and enabling women to participate more fully in economic and social life will accelerate national progress.

The Prime Minister’s amplification of the article comes in the lead-up to International Women’s Day, observed annually on March 8, when governments, organisations and communities highlight the achievements of women and renew commitments toward gender equality.

In recent years, the Modi government has repeatedly stressed women-led development as a central theme of its policy framework, linking initiatives in education, financial inclusion, health and entrepreneurship to broader efforts aimed at empowering women and strengthening their role in the country’s growth story.
