Vandalism of Dr BR Ambedkar statue sparks tension in Varanasi

Varanasi, March 7 (UNI) Tension erupted in Udaipur village under the Cholapur police station area after a statue of BR Ambedkar was allegedly vandalised, triggering anger among local residents, officials confirmed on Saturday.

According to reports, as soon as news of the damage to the statue spread on Friday, a large number of villagers, including women and men, gathered at the site and demanded the immediate arrest of the accused. The situation became tense, prompting the deployment of police personnel from several nearby police stations.

A written complaint was filed at the Cholapur police station by village resident Avdhesh Ratan. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered against 13 named individuals and several unidentified persons. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter.

Those named in the complaint include Sipak Rajbhar, Aman Rajbhar, Ranveer Rajbhar, Vishnu Rajbhar, Ajay Rajbhar, Kishan Rajbhar, Vishal Rajbhar, Bahadur Rajbhar, and Golu Rajbhar, among others. They have been accused of attempting to disturb communal harmony in the area.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Vidush Saxena reached the spot and calmed the villagers, helping to bring the situation under control. It has also been alleged that some individuals had attempted to create disturbances in the village on the day of Holi.

Police officials stated that the investigation is ongoing and strict action will be taken against those found responsible.
