Body of retired engineer found in New Shimla apartment

Shimla, March 7 (UNI) The body of a 50-year-old man was recovered from his apartment in the New Shimla area after neighbours informed the police that he had not opened the door of his residence for a long time.
Senior supperintendent of Police Garauv Singh said onFriday that a team from New Shimla police station reached Block-50, Sector-4 and opened the door of the apartment in the presence of witnesses due to suspicious circumstances. Inside the room, the body of Pravesh Kumar (50), son of Bihari Lal, a native of Thural in Kangra district, was found.
Police said the deceased was living alone in the apartment and had taken voluntary retirement from the post of executive engineer in the Electricity Department.
Preliminary information suggests that he had been under mental stress and was undergoing treatment for anxiety. His wife had died in 2021 and the couple had no children.
The body has been sent to Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla, for postmortem, which will be conducted on Friday.
Family members and neighbours have not expressed any suspicion so far. Police have initiated proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and further investigation is underway.
