Holi paints Delhi in colour of love, brotherhood & festive fervour

New Delhi, March 4 (UNI) People of the national capital today upheld the spirit of community, brotherhood and love, as they celebrated the festival of colours together, as Delhi turned into a beautiful painting of multiple shades on the canvas amid pleasant weather.

People from different walks of life greeted each other on the occasion with sweets and applied vibrant colours to mark Holi festivities, also dancing to the tunes associated with the festival.

Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Cabinet Minister Parvesh Verma welcomed and greeted people at the Holi Milan events held at their residences and celebrated the festival amid public.

At different colonies the resident welfare associations organised Holi Milan events, where people enjoyed great traditional Holi food like Gujia and Fritters along with Thandai, as they danced to the folk music performed by local artistes.

People were seen dressed in Holi-ready attire, wearing colourful kurtas, white T shirts, while women draped Sarees or wore kurta salwar with colourful odhnis, during morning hours as they ventured out of their homes to visit friends, relatives for celebrating Holi.

Meanwhile, the police was present at multiple locations with check posts and stepped-up patrolling during the festivities, especially to keep away anti-social elements from causing any mischief or nuisance during the celebrations.

Delhi Traffic Police had made elaborate arrangements to ensure the safety of pedestrians and the motorists on city’s roads, with special measures to keep in check incidents of drunken driving, over-speeding, reckless driving, zig-zag driving, dangerous driving, red light jumping, triple riding, driving by minors, driving or riding without a helmet, and stunting on two-wheelers etc.

Special checking teams had been deployed at major intersections, drunken points and vulnerable points to ensure that celebrations remain safe from, while traffic violators are prosecuted, and violations are kept at bay.

In assembly constituencies across the city, the local representatives were seen on ground who took part in the celebrations with the local residents.

At Pandara Road, New Delhi MLA Parvesh Verma was seen celebrating Holi with the residents of the area.

Similarly, various private events were also held at different places where people got together and celebrated Holi.

Notably, eco- friendly colours and flower petals were in trend for playing Holi, other than the chemical-based options, and deeper permanent colours, that were earlier popular amongst people.

CM had also urged the people to celebrate Holi in a safe and eco-friendly manner to enjoy the real spirit of the festival
