Shillong, (UNI) A Bangladeshi couple were arrested in Meghalaya’s West Jaintia Hills district for allegedly entering India without any valid travel documents, police said on Monday.
Apart from the two alleged infiltrators – Monirul Biswas and his wife Lovely Khatun of Bhombag village in Narail district under Khulna division of Bangladesh – police also nabbed an Indian driver, Pynshaibha Khaii, who allegedly facilitated their illegal entry and onward movement from Dawki.
“A police patrol team intercepted the vehicle bearing registration number ML‑05AG‑7472 in which the two Bangladeshi nationals were suspiciously travelling on Sunday night . During preliminary inquiry, the Bangladeshi nationals failed to produce any valid travel documents,” Jagpal Singh Dhanoa, the district police chief of West Jaintia Hills, said.
Dhanoa said the driver suspected to have facilitated their illegal entry and onward movement from Dawki.
A case was registered under the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025. The accused were arrested and will be produced before the JMFC at Amlarem.
